I love 2faceIdibia, he is absolutely gorgeous and so is his
music. His passion for music can never be under estimated and thankfully the
gods of music did bless him as his longevity and continuous rise in the
Nigerian music industry and by extension African prior to his marriage can be
compared to none.
What is more admirably is the fact that this Legend refused
to join the bandwagon of ‘noisemakers’ over the years; he did stick to good
music and his creativity is top notch. A man well admired by his colleagues who
are so quick to sing his praises. His humility is a story for another day as
such hardly exists among mortals.
So many encomiums and eulogies for one who happens to be my
favourite musician of all time; that’s why it saddens my heart to see that
2face’s career has been on a downward trend ever since he tied the knot with
his heartthrob. Do not get me wrong; Marriage is the most beautiful thing ever and
I respect the institution with every fiber of my being. Just a moment and you
will get the point am driving at.
If you are a lover of Idibia’s music and have been following
his songs and paying attention to his lyrics, you would have noticed that Mr
Idibia songs are mostly inspired by happenings in his life and surroundings.
From ‘Only me’ to ‘Take it back’, then ‘Raindrops’ and to my favourite ‘Rainbow’.
They were all inspired by events that occurred at different points in his life
with special references to the drama in his life that was triggered by the
number of women he did put in the family way.
Thankfully, all is now well with Mr Idibia and the
controversies and drama has died down but sadly so also are his musical
creativity and his fan base. It was quite shameful that less than 50 people
turned up for his Rwandan concert days ago. Some would say blame the promoters
of the event for a job badly down but I would say blame the artist for being
stagnant for too long.
There is this saying that one should pray to flow like a
river because stagnant water smells. Truth is people want to hear new tunes and
humans are not static but subject to change. Give then new music and they would
love you the more; give them boring annoying songs and they would switch to
another. That’s one reason why Rihanna has been standing tall for a long while;
she knows what the people want.
Change they say is the only constant thing, hence the reason
why Mr Idibia should change too. Get song writers to write you fabulous song;
the music has changed, so should the dance. Having great vocals doesn’t guarantee
survival in the music industry, if it does, Wande Coal would probably be the
most successful African music star but sadly his career is also in Free fall.
Mr Idibia should also learn to promote himself by
interacting with his fans. Is not ok to just have social media accounts, he
should learn to use it effectively; he can ask Donjazzy for tutorials. If only
he promoted his Rwandan concert on his social media pages, there might not be
any need for this article.
If I were 2face Idibia, I would take a month break from
events and concerts; bury myself in the studio and start pouring my heart to
different beats, who knows the frog that will turn into Prince charming.
I know Nigerian celebrities hate the truth and prefer half
baked truths or lies but a constructive criticism like this should never be
ignored but then again it all lies in the hands of Mr Idibia. A word is enough
for the wise!
